About TGLSoM
Think back to Fall of 2008, when the auto bail out was being hotly debated in Washington. I remember sitting in the Case Hall cafeteria and realizing that nearly every table was having the same conversation mine was - that even if we were a little uncomfortable with the idea of the government taking over an industry, the auto bail out needed to happen.
From that point on, I took notice of the fact that Michigan rarely was the subject of positive national press coverage. While at first I was sort of happy that Michigan statistics were used during discussions of unemployment on CNN - “They’re finally realizing that Michigan’s economy needs help!” - it soon became clear that people outside of the state of Michigan had a very negative conception of our state. It’s that negative image that prevents future growth, it prevents people moving here and investing here. And so, I started doing what I could to promote what positive news coverage there was about Michigan.
I started this blog as an extension of my personal PR campaign for the state of Michigan. I don’t want to be a part of the brain drain, and I want to do my best to get others jazzed about this beautiful place too. I’m not sure I love the rhetoric of “Save Michigan,” because frankly, Michigan doesn’t need to be saved. There are enough people who have built their lives and their families around this place that our state isn’t going to just cease to exist.
Rather, my goal is to get others to believe in Michigan, and to want to be here too. Good things are happening here, and you should want to be a part of it.
